Jay Geurink

I'm not all that sure how things got this far. Painting kinda started as a joke for me when I was around 22 and had just dropped out of school and broke up with a girlfriend. The first year I painted like a jr. high kid that was obsessed with Jim Houser but luckily a few friends including Brian Gilbert got me to branch out and become comfortable with whatever I wanted to paint.

My paintings are usually mirrors to what I'm thinking at that moment. A lot of my paintings have to do with my anxieties and all the things that help contribute to their growth. Every person, character or animal has it's purpose when I paint them just like all the words. I try not to worry about what I'm doing as long as it makes sense in my head. The layers, covered parts and run offs are like life I think. It's how we only get to see parts of who you are. If it ends up looking like a bunch of drunken ramble and un-relating themes then I think it's getting to a good point. I don't feel there is any point in doing what I'm doing unless it's helping me to become a better person.
