Jason May

My process works in one of three different ways. I taught myself to paint by gessoing a canvas white, then just kind of going nuts over the white with black lines. Then, like reading clouds I would stare at them until it looked like something I could paint. I would add some color in key places, and it was finished. I don't paint this way as often as i used to, but lately it kind of making a comeback. Since I wanted to paint long before i was fiscally able, I have been taking 'mental pictures' for as long as I can remember. My landscapes are almost always painted this way. From a warped memory that has floated around in my head for years. On occasion i have an image flash in my head over and over until i finally paint it and get it over with. these tend to be my larger pieces.

If i had to assign an overall theme behind most of my work, it is the profound difference between religion and god.
